Standing On the Inerrant Word of God
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost we do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.
DBBC Statement of Faith
We accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God and as the ultimate authority in matters of faith, doctrine, and Christian living. This church accepts “The Baptist Faith and Message” as most recently adopted by the Southern Baptist Mission Board as affirmation of our basic Christian beliefs and as a general statement of our faith.
Marriage is a Biblical institution established by God as clearly described in the scriptures. This church recognizes that marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. Accordingly, this church, its pastor, staff, and members will not participate in same sex unions or same sex marriage, nor shall its property or resources be used for such purpose.
The Bible teaches that legitimate sexual relations are exercised solely within marriage. Hence, this church opposes all forms of sexual immorality, including adultery, homosexuality, and pornography.

A Brief History of Double Branches
Double Branches Baptist Church (DBBC), which is located approximately twelve miles southeast of the city of Lincolnton, GA, was established sometime prior to 1803. According to Georgia Association minutes, the church started with twenty-two members. They gave seventy-five cents to the Association the first year. Henry Smith was listed as a licensed minister from the church.

From the Associational minutes it appears that DBBC began as a Christian meeting place for a small group of Baptists, Methodists, and Presbyterian. It was not uncommon for Protestants to share preachers and since preachers were scarce at this time in Georgia’s history. The first meeting house was located near the present site. Later the Baptists acquire the site for themselves as each church organized elsewhere.

There are very few records dating from 1803-1826. It has been said that these records were destroyed by fire.

In October 1830, fourteen members were dismissed to become charter members of New Hope Baptist Church. On November 5, 1830, New Hope was organized with sixteen members.

One year later, in 1831, James Ware sold one acre of land along with the spring for $1.00. He stated that the land and spring were to be used for religious purposes only.

On December 27, 1831, the church authorized the trustees to build the present building in which the members and visitors worship today. The building was a typical early 1800’s style building with a center post supporting the roof span.

During the early to mid-1800’s Black Americans were a vital part of the congregation of our church. In fact, the 1850 and 1860 census and denominational records show that the membership at Double Branches was 48 percent White and 52 percent Black.

By the mid-1800’s Double Branches Baptist church was a prominent and well-known church within the Georgia Baptist Association. Years later, the church remains strong. This church, throughout the course of its history, has been a major part of its members’ lives. Double Branches has been the center of the joyful times of baptisms, weddings, births, and ordinations. It has been a part of the sad moments and times of crisis as well.

Double Branches Baptist Church continues to be an important part of the community as a center of worship and as a cooperative effort for missions, both locally and globally. DBBC has a long history of mission work through its contributions and its actions. It continues to seek ways to minister to those who need to hear God’s Word.
